RIOT ANTIGONE collides Sophocles’ ANTIGONE with the 90s Riot Grrrl movement. After a bloody war slays Antigone’s brothers, leader Creon demands that one body be left unburied. Fired up by provocative art and violent activism, Antigone defies his edict, erupting a face-off between familial love and rule of law. Led by a magnetic Chorus Leader, this explosive musical reframes the Greek tragedy with pumping rock, percussive dance and cutting poetry, asking, “is it better to burn than to wilt away?”
This musical received a workshop in Spring 2014.
